MEET PHIL · OWNER SINCE 2018

40 years a dealer.
A lifetime a collector.

I've been a dealer for over 40 years, and I've always taken pride in what I sell. I started with vintage toys back before the internet changed that world, then moved into collectibles, then into records about twenty-odd years ago. Moving into the vinyl business is what rediscovered my love of music for me.

A recycled item, in my opinion, is mostly better than new. Records just have a nicer sound — we listen in analogue, not digital. And music is the key to life. It lives in people's minds, tied to both the good and bad moments of their lives. I've been collecting since I was six years old, and I've never seen any reason to stop.

The Record Box has been open in George Yard since 2018. Before that I ran shops in Taunton and Newbury. Where I am now is the right premises at the right time, and the customers I get through the door are amazing. If you haven't been in — come up the alley and have a flick through.

NOW IN THE CRATES

Flick through the racks.

A rotating selection of what's on the shelves right now. Every record cleaned, checked, and graded by me personally. If you don't see what you're after, drop me a line — the search service is free.

Loading the crates…

Bring 'em back to life.

Professional record cleaning for any era of vinyl. Dust, dirt, grime — gone. Every disc and cover checked for scratches and marks. If I wouldn't sell it myself, I won't put it on the shelf.

Hunting something specific?

Tell me what you're after and I'll keep an eye out. No charge, no pressure — I just like the chase. New stock comes in every week.

Selling up? I'll take a look.

Buying single records or whole collections. Cash or trade, fair prices, no pressure. If you've inherited a shedload of vinyl and don't know what to do with it — give me a ring.

THIS WEEK AT THE RECORD BOX

Fresh batch of 80s metal just in. First come, first served.

Highly recommended for your vinyl needs. Phil the shop owner gives a very friendly service, has a great sense of humour & has reasonably priced & graded vinyl records, this guy really does know what he's talking about when it comes to music.

— Ian Hobbs, Google Review

Visited for the first time today as a stopover on a trip back from London. Phil was very engaging and friendly with a clear passion for music and a shop packed with vinyls. One of the best selections in an independent store I have seen in recent times.

— Sam McGlynn, Google

Met with Phil today and was great to chat football and vinyl. Varied range of items and well worth a visit if in the area.

— Fish4Junk, Google

Great friendly service, Phil really knows his stuff when it comes to music. Always in stock hard to find vinyl records in great condition.

— Alan Marshall, Google

Great little record store — all second hand but, judging from the 4 I picked up, excellent quality. Prices are not cheap but you get what you pay for and, considering the condition, comparable with Discogs prices. Well worth a visit and the owner is knowledgeable, friendly and very chatty.
